Many of the patients know that Periodontist is a dentist who specializes in the evaluation and treatment of the “supporting structures” of the teeth, i.e. gums & bone supporting teeth. However, not many probably realize the amount of training is required to become a periodontist. Eleven plus years is the average length of education required after high school to become a dental specialist.
Dr. Wang received his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Florida and continued his studies at NYU College of Dentistry where he received his DDS degree with honors. Dr. Wang received his postgraduate degree from NYU dental school. There he completed his specialty training in the Department of Periodontology & Implant Dentistry where he was a chief resident.
Dr. Wang dedicated a significant amount of his time to volunteering and outreach programs here in New York City and outside of the US. He volunteered his time and expertise in Ronald Mcdonald House in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry, in Elmhurst Medical Center in the Department of Dentistry.
Twice he visited Nicaragua, once as a dental student volunteer and once as a dental researcher with Global Outreach programs.
Dr. Wang was an honorary member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU).
We offer a Free Consultation with a restorative dentist. Evaluation with our NYC periodontist and implant specialist is $150. Amount paid for the evaluation will be applied toward the treatment.
Board Certified Periodontist in Manhattan NY
As mentioned above, all dental specialists require an additional 2 to 3 years of training following general dentist degree. To become a Board Certified Periodontology means that a periodontist must pass additional certification, that is held once a year in the form of written and oral exam along with a detailed report covering periodontics and implant dentistry. As described by American Academy of Periodontology, “who has made significant achievements beyond the mandatory educational requirements of the specialty, including demonstrating a comprehensive mastery of all phases of periodontal disease and treatment and in the placement of dental implants” receives board certification. To maintain Board Certification a periodontist must go through yearly continuing education.
Dr. Wang is an accomplished Board Certified Periodontist with notable skills in both non-surgical perio treatments and gum surgery procedures like tissue grafts and osseous surgery. As a Periodontist, he provides periodontal care and helps patients maintain healthy gums and avoid tooth loss. He sees patients with various stages of gum disease who after receiving comprehensive periodontal treatment see significant improvements in periodontal health.
To treat advanced gum disease and prevent bone loss Dr. Wang can perform osseous surgery and bone graft. In the cases of mild to moderate periodontal disease, Dr.Wang may perform a non-surgical treatment. If you have signs or have been diagnosed with a gum disease you should get an evaluation from our top periodontist team to determine the best treatment.
In addition, 209 NYC periodontist can address such concerns as gum recession and cosmetic issues as low gum lines. Receding gums expose your teeth to decay at the roots. Exposed roots are more sensitive to the cold and brushing. If left untreated recession may develop into gum disease or develop tooth decay. To correct this issue Dr. Wang performs tissue grafts. Many people with gum recession feel self-conscious about the “longer” appearance of their teeth. Your smile will look even better after a tissue graft, with the upper portion of the tooth covered once again.

NYC periodontist reviews:
I had an infection about this time last year. Half of my face was swollen. The first periodontist that was able to see me told me it looked scary and referred me to a surgeon. Then I tried Dr. Wang. He cut open the gum, drained the pus, and put some medicine in. The pain and swelling quickly went away. He charged me a very reasonable price for this emergency procedure that not all periodontists can do. My entire family are getting our dental work done at 209 NYC Dental because of Dr. Wang.

Dr. Wang performed my gum graft surgery exceptionally. He was very thorough with explaining everything pre and post surgery and made me feel very comfortable. I’m so happy with the results and recommend him to everyone!

Where should I start? First, my interaction with the staffs: they are professional and courteous. Second, I was nervous in getting a gum contouring surgery but Dr. Wang made the experience so pleasant. He is a great communicator, cares for the patients and he also makes sure you are satisfied with the outcome of the procedure/service. He guides you with care through the procedure by asking you, are you ok? this is what’s happening… and these are the outcomes. I’m still healing but so far I loving the outcome of my new smile. I’m so glad Dr. Wang performed the procedure and the bonus highlight, he makes sure while he is conducting the surgery; he plays your favorite music. Thank you, Dr. Wang, for everything and the staffs at 209 NYC Dental.
Fredelina P. – Yelp Review
Needing some periodontal work I searched online for somewhere convenient. The reviews indicated he was good and close to my office. Like anyone who “loooves” any kind of dental work, I went to my first appointment for what would be multiple visits and procedures. Dr. Wang was very cordial, friendly and knowledgeable. He made the visit go by quickly. The office is a pleasant area that takes good advantage of the available space in your average New York building. The staff members were most friendly. Each time I visited, there was hardly any wait. When I arrived, he was already walking his previous patient out.
