What Problems Do Porcelain Veneers Solve?
When teeth whitening treatment does not brighten discolored teeth, or when misshapen teeth cause embarrassment, it may be time to makeover your smile with porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers offer an immediate cosmetic solution to common dental issues, such as:
- Gaps and spaces
- Crooked or uneven teeth
- Shape or size irregularities
- Discolored teeth
- Gummy smiles
- Cracked or chipped teeth
- Decayed teeth
A gorgeous smile enhances other aspects of your life as well. Not only do porcelain veneers correct cosmetic issues, but they also improve your overall well-being. A brilliant smile may lead to:
- Powerful first impressions
- Greater success resulting from increased confidence
- The happiness of looking and feeling more attractive
- A self-esteem boost that will make you more comfortable in both large social gatherings and intimate situations
Studies confirm that people with straight white teeth are believed to be more attractive, healthier, wealthier and more educated than those who appear to have poor oral health. For example, a study published in 2012 confirmed that both male and female subjects found white teeth more attractive than discolored teeth. Similarly, tooth wear and tooth loss reflected poor health. The study provides evidence that people consider teeth when choosing a soul mate.
Another study, published by Procter & Gamble in 2007, found that a bright, white smile powerfully impacts social and professional interactions. Researchers discovered the following:
- Fifty-eight percent of online survey participants were more likely to be hired after their teeth had been whitened.
- Fifty-three percent of online survey participants were more likely to receive a larger salary with whiter teeth.
- Sixty-five percent of study participants were viewed as more professional during a simulated job interview after their teeth had been whitened.
- Sixty-one percent of study participants were more confident after their teeth had been whitened.
Health and happiness are among the most attractive qualities an individual can possess. With a beautiful smile that is customized for your face and mouth shape, your unique personality will brilliantly shine through and warm the people around you.

2. First Visit
During the first visit, a small amount of enamel from the tooth surface will be removed to provide space for the veneer and prevent overlapping. Veneers are thin, but they still take up room on the surface of the tooth. In most cases Dr. Ifraimov will capture a digital impression using a 3D digital scanner to fabricate the best veneers for your teeth. However, in some cases, traditional impressions are more suitable. Often the number of the teeth undergoing treatment with porcelain veneer and the current condition of these teeth will be the deciding factor. Dr. Ifraimov will be able to determine the course of your treatment during the initial consultation.
Also during your first visit, temporary veneers will be fabricated and placed to protect teeth while the porcelain veneers are being created by our Master Technician. Typically, you will wear temporary veneers for a couple of weeks. Temporary veneers look and feel natural, and they resemble the final veneers.
At the end of the first visit, you will be able to eat, drink and go about your life with your temporary veneers. You will notice a difference in your smile right away, and you will have the chance to get comfortable with veneers.
3. Second Visit
Once your final veneers are made, it is time to complete the process. First, the temporary veneers will be removed. Next, the porcelain veneers will be adhered to the tooth surface using very strong dental cement. Finally, the veneer will be carefully buffed, so it feels and looks natural.
A porcelain veneer procedure is not very discomforting, patients usually feel fine shortly after the procedure. Some patients may experience slight sensitivity or discomfort for a couple of days. Dr. Ifraimov will explain proper follow-up care and address any of your concerns.

Ideal Candidates for Porcelain Veneers
The best candidate for porcelain veneers is anyone who is unhappy with their smile. You might consider veneers if:
- You want to solve structural issues such as cracks, gaps, and misaligned teeth
- Have medication-induced stains that teeth whitening will not remove
- You want whiter teeth but your diet contains foods and drinks that stain your teeth, like coffee, tea, wine, berries, or other acidic foods
- You have a gummy smile
- You have mild dental decay
- You have overall good oral health
- You are committed to good oral hygiene and care
Porcelain veneers are not recommended for individuals experiencing oral health issues such as gum disease or weakened teeth. If you have or need to have root canal treatment ceramic crowns may be suggested as an alternative. If you regularly grind your teeth, you may not be eligible for veneers. However, even if you do not qualify for porcelain veneers at this time, you may consider veneers or other cosmetic solutions as an option after dental health issues have been successfully treated. Dr. Ifraimov will examine the condition of your teeth during the free consultation to determine the right treatment for you.

You want your veneers to be designed to complement your unique smile and facial features, so it is important to choose a dentist who has experience in this type of cosmetic procedure. Not all dentists are skilled in veneer treatment.
Just like any other dental procedure, creating and applying porcelain veneers is an art. Most of the patients want dental veneers to look natural as if they have a perfect smile. With so many shades of white, to choose the right shade that suits your skin tone, your eyes and your hair is one of the skills that takes an aesthetic eye and time to develop. It may seem a no-brainer, but one may end up looking like Ross from Friends if the wrong shade is chosen, same goes for the size of each veneer.
