I have been fearful of going to the dentist all my life. Past bad experiences have made me avoid visits like the plague. This had led me to have many dental issues. I came to Dr. Wang for a second opinion on back molar that I was told was infected and would probably need to be extracted. From minute I met Dr. Wang I knew I was in good hands. He sat me down and explained exactly what was going on with my molar. He has a way of making you feel relaxed. I agreed to an extraction with the follow up of an implant. Best dental decision I’ve ever made!
I am so happy I finally found a dentist who I can trust and who has helped me get over my dentist phobia. Thank you Dr. Wang!! – Yelp Review

What is a dental implant?
A dental implant provides an anchor point for a realistic crown to replace a missing tooth. If you have many missing teeth, you can get your dentures anchored to a series of dental implants. An implant serves as an artificial root for a custom crown or false tooth after your surgeon implants a titanium post into your jawbone.

Here are some of our dental implant reviews:
Dr. Wang is the best! I had a really bad infection on my front two teeth for years. He is caring, knowledgeable, sweet and super gentle with his hands. I was nervous because this was a bit traumatic for me but he always kept me calm and I never worried about the outcome. I am now infection free and have strong implants. Zorica who works for Dr. Wang is super sweet and caring as well. She’s very helpful with all the insurance claims and appointments. I recommended Dr. Wang to my coworkers and friends and they all love him as well. I plan on getting the rest of my implants here and from no one else. I love the two of them, they treat you like family.

He made sure the procedure was painless, and he is quick and efficient, yet has always most pleasantly taken his time to answer all my questions and address any concerns. He’s very personable and does excellent work. I’ve never had to wait. Truly, Dr. Wang, and the entire staff at 209 seem exceptional. Dental Implant Surgery in NYC
Replacing missing tooth or teeth consists of three phases: a consultation phase, a surgical phase and a prosthetic (or restorative) phase. However, some patients also require a separate bone graft procedure beforehand.
Step 1 – Consultation Phase
A dental implant serves as a replacement root for a prosthetic tooth that will look and feel natural. It is important to get a consultation before the procedure so your dental team can determine if adequate tissue is available in the area where a titanium screw will need to go into the jawbone.
During the consultation, you will provide your full health history and have a physical exam. You will also get panoramic X-rays and a 3D cone beam CT taken of your mouth. The imaging will help your team determine if you are a candidate for implant surgery. If you require a bone graft, you may need to have this procedure separately and wait until your new bony tissue fully heals before getting the implant.
Step 2 – Surgical Phase, Dental implant placement
During the Surgical Phase, performed by one of the best NYC dental implant specialists, Dr. Jin Wang, the implant (a titanium artificial root) is placed in the jawbone. It replaces the root of the missing tooth and fuses with the bone in a process called “osseointegration.” If your jaw doesn’t have sufficient bone to support the implant, a bone graft may be used to augment the bone. The graft can be placed along with the implant.
Step 3 – Restorative Phase, Dental implant prosthesis placement
A few weeks or months will pass before the implant is ready for the Restorative Phase. At this stage, the implant abutment is placed on the implant, and a 3D scan is made. The scan is sent to the lab where custom implant crown, denture or bridge are fabricated. Then the final prosthesis is inserted and adjusted for a comfortable fit.
Recovery From Dental Implant Surgery
Implants are usually a successful treatment plan when your bone tissue is of an acceptable density. The pain and swelling are usually minor and easily managed with over-the-counter pain medications, but if you require prescription pain medication during the first few days of recovery, your doctor can write you a prescription.
The total recovery period could take up to six months, but most patients return to normal activities earlier than one week. You can get your custom dental crowns installed after you have fully healed from step 1 of the procedure.
Factors that can put you at risk for complications include:
- Smoking or using tobacco products.
- Having poor oral hygiene habits.
- Using bisphosphonates.
- Being immunocompromised or deficient.
- Having diabetes.
- Undergoing radiation therapy treatments.
Can I Get Dental Implants the Same Day?
Depending on the health of the bone the same day dental implants can be done during extraction visit. This procedure is called immediate implant placement. Upon your initial consultation, our dental implant specialist will determine if you are a candidate for same day dental implants.
What are my options to close the gap while my implant is healing?
At 209 NYC dental we provide several options for a temporary missing tooth replacement:
- Removable flipper
- Bonded fake tooth
- Removable denture, in case, if multiple teeth are missing
How long do implants last?
When properly cared for, implants can last as long as natural teeth, or longer. Although the implant and implant restoration can’t become decayed, the gum surrounding the implant is still susceptible to periodontal disease. Regular brushing and dental cleaning and checkups are still necessary to ensure your implants remain in good shape.
Dental Implants vs. Bridges
There are supporting reasons why implants are a better choice than fixed bridges:
The average cost of dental implants depends on the number of teeth being replaced. If restoring a single tooth the cost of the implant placement and restoration with abutment and crown will be the same as the expense of placing the ceramic bridge making dental implants affordable, even in NYC.
A bridge necessitates “cutting down” adjacent teeth (even if they are healthy) for crowns (abutments that will support pontic, tooth replacing missing tooth). An implant eliminates the need of filing healthy teeth.
With a bridge, some of the bone that previously surrounded the tooth that is now missing begins to resorb (degenerate). Dental implants fuse with your jawbone, helping it stay healthy.
In the long-term, an implant restoration is more esthetic and more durable. The teeth supporting the bridge can experience tooth decay, the gums will eventually recede around a bridge, and the bone loss may progress
Dental Implants vs. Removable Dentures
Removable dentures are an inexpensive and quick solution to replacing missing teeth. If finances are a big concern, a removable denture is a solution.
When there is tooth loss, the bone that once supported it starts to shrink contributing to bone loss. The more missing teeth one may have the less bone there is. Bone loss contributes to poor fitting of the traditional removable dentures, full or partial. Dental implants when placed in the jawbone stop bone loss by simulating the roots of natural teeth.
With dental implants, forget about unsightly partial denture clasps, which place damaging pressure on remaining natural teeth.
Dental implants serve as anchors for a full denture, providing stability and functionality with no limitations. No adhesive is required anymore, and you can eat any meal you like and enjoy it.
Some patients experience difficulty speaking with the dentures, or they sound different. Speaking is no longer affected when you have an implant supported denture.
To be able to stay in the mouth full upper denture is constructed with palate covered. Some people may experience gagging reflex; others may have an enlarged torus. In either case, wearing a full denture becomes very difficult. Implant supported dentures may be constructed to look like bridges with very little of artificial tissue. Thus no gagging will ever be an issue.
If you get dental implants, you will need to properly care for your artificial teeth the same way you would brush and floss your natural teeth. Bacteria that accumulate in your mouth can cause gum swelling, and continued poor oral hygiene habits will eventually lead to your jaw bone receding.
Jawbone recession weakens your implants, and in severe cases, they would have to be removed to preserve your oral cavity. Taking care of your teeth and going to regular dental cleanings at least twice annually is important for ensuring the health of your implants. Our dental hygienists are trained to provide the best standards of care for cleaning your dental implants.
