Types of Teeth Cleaning Services Explained
We tailor our services to your unique gums and bone health – no one-size-fits-all here!
Prophylaxis (Routine Dental Cleaning)
This is your standard NYC teeth cleaning, performed by a skilled dental hygienist or dentist usually every six months. New patients typically start here unless your dental exam shows more serious concerns.
Full-Mouth Debridement
If you have severe calculus buildup that’s nearly covering your teeth and gums, this “pre-cleaning” procedure is done before the full exam. It helps our dentist get a clear view of your mouth. Full mouth debridement may be followed by additional cleanings and treatments.
This periodontal procedure, also known as scaling & root planing, performed to treat early gum disease or in preparation for osseous surgery in case of severe periodontitis. The goal of deep cleaning is removal of plaque, tartar and bacteria below the gum line around the roots. Note: This treatment is never done on the first appointment – it requires evaluation and diagnosis by 209 NYC periodontist.
Periodontal Maintenance
Periodontal maintenance cleaning procedure combines routine cleaning above the gums with deep cleaning below the gum line. Since gum disease cannot be cured patients with a history of gum disease require a more strict maintenance protocol and are typically scheduled for a cleaning more frequently, every 3 or 4 months.
Importance of Regular Teeth Cleanings
Preventative care is the foundation of a beautiful smile and lasting overall health. Some patients think of dental cleaning as a way to keep a brighter smile, but it’s actually one of the most important parts of your oral health routine.
Regular teeth cleanings remove harmful bacteria that daily brushing and flossing can miss. Over time, not removed food particles turn into plaque, plaque hardens into tartar, tartar causes gum disease and tooth decay. By removing these irritants during dental cleaning, we protect your teeth and gums, prevent tooth decay, helping you avoid costly problems like root canals or needing a dental crown later on.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a dental cleaning cost in NYC without insurance? New Patient Special: $325
For new patients, our $325 package includes a comprehensive dental exam, full set of digital X-rays, and a teeth cleaning. We don’t offer dental cleanings alone for new patients because a full diagnosis is essential for your oral health. Most people find this approach saves money and trouble down the road.
Why Do I need Checkup and X-Rays on my First Visit? Establishing Your Baseline Oral Health
As the oldest continuously operating practice in New York State, with over a century of experience, 209 NYC Dental has established guidelines to provide the best possible dental care to our patients. Once you step through the doors of our Midtown dental office, we take responsibility for your well-being. Unlike dental cleaning offices, we focus on your long-term good oral health.
Simply cleaning your teeth won’t fix underlying problems like tooth decay or periodontal disease. On your first appointment, we establish baseline of your dental health. Without a thorough dental exam and digital x-rays, we can’t detect hidden tooth decay between teeth, bone loss, or infections like those needing root canals.
Do you accept dental insurance? Yes! We accept most PPO dental insurance plans
We accept most PPO dental insurance plans including Aetna, Cigna, Guardian, MetLife, Delta Dental, and many more. Moreover, cleanings are usually covered at 100%, twice a year. Our office will verify your benefits before your appointment so there are no surprises.
Are you open on weekends for dental exam and cleaning? Yes! Open Saturday & Sunday with full services
Yes, our Midtown East, NYC dental office is open 7 days a week for routine and emergency care. We even offer same day availability most days. Call 212-355-2290 to see if we can see you today for cleaning and exam.
Where is your office located? Midtown East, Manhattan
We are located at 209 East 56th Street, 1st Floor, New York, NY 10022. Our dentist office is situated in Manhattan, Midtown East, conveniently located between 2nd and 3rd Avenue.
What is the 2-2-2 rule for teeth? Visit 2x/year, Brush 2x/day, for 2 mins
It’s an easy way to remember great habits: Visit your dentist 2 times a year, brush your teeth 2 times a day, and brush for 2 full minutes each time to effectively remove plaque.
How can I remove plaque at home? Brush twice daily & floss to prevent tartar
You can prevent plaque from hardening into tartar by brushing twice daily with fluoride toothpaste and flossing every evening to clean between teeth – where most dentists find decay starts. But once tartar forms, only a professional can remove it safely.

I was very lucky to have had a referral for this Dental Practice. From the wonderful staff at the front desk, who were very helpful and those who checked on my insurance to see if I was covered and this was all before I even had the actual appointment.
This was my first time for a visit and I was greeted as if I had been going there forever. I was informed of what to expect and after I filled out my paperwork a lovely young lady came so I could have my x-rays which went well; then the hygienist came and got me - she looked over my x-rays and asked me some questions and then proceeded to clean my teeth. She did a wonderful job. Then the dentist came in for further examination and discussion of what my next steps should be. He was a wonderful doctor.
This was a wonderful experience. Before today I was with the same dentist office for approximately 40 years and always adored them unfortunately, they retired. So, I am extremely thrilled to have found such a wonderful dental office and staff at 209 NYC Dental. I look forward to building a lasting relationship.
